Plants Add Happiness
An Interview with Adam Lenz
Master Gardener, greenhouse grower, Orchid aficionado, trombone player and Central Asia enthusiast, what an interesting, cultured life of a 30 year old…………… But wait, Adam is only 19 and has just finished his first year of college at Western Michigan University.
How, might you ask can such a young man be so versed? Intense persistence, an eagerness to learn, a fascination with culture, plants and people has always driven Adam to excel in his areas of interest.
For the past three years, Adam has assisted customers at our store with his extensive knowledge of plants and his practical experience from growing annuals, perennials and vegetables at his parent's home in Parchment. Don't let his youthful appearance dissuade you, he loves assisting customers and he understands how to grow and care for flowers, plants and vegetables.
"My parents have always been very supportive of me and encouraged me to follow my interests. So when I told them I'd like to get my Master Gardener Certificate when I was 16, they agreed," states Adam. He admits with a wide and warm smile, his parent's reaction was similar when he told them he was going to work part time at Wenke's Retail Store and as an Orchid grower at WMU's greenhouse.
"They have never rolled their eyes when I expressed I'd like to learn about plants, play the trombone well enough to join WMU's Trombone Choir and study the impact of music on the early cultures of Central Asia," Adam laughs.
Renaissance people come in all ages and in addition to answering your gardening questions, Adam would be delighted to talk with you about music, cultures and the value of scouting. Did I mention he has also completed his Eagle Scout certification….
