Foxgloves, Striking and Majestic Flowers
Our Featured perennial for mid-May is Digitalis, commonly known as Foxglove. This plant is stunning in early spring. The flowers are on tall spikes, high above the foliage and are shaped like tubes. According to Wikipedia, the scientific names means "finger-like" and refers to the ease with which a Digitalis flower can fit over a human fingertip.
Digitalis is best planted in a part-sun location. It's available in pinks, whites and purples. Please know that, in Michigan, this perennial typically survives for only a few years before it no longer comes back. Its beauty more than makes up for its short lifespan.
