Fall Mums
Great Color for Fall
Mums can quickly an easily add beautiful fall colors to your home. I thought I'd take a few minutes to answer the most common question that I am asked about fall mums. Many people ask if mums will come back again next year. The answer to this question is not as easy to answer as you might think.
In the past, all mums were hardy / perennial type. Over the past years, this is no longer true. The varieties available are no longer tested for their hardiness. Many people use the mum as a decoration and never really plant it in the ground. Therefore, the varieties that are most commonly grown are chosen more for their timing, ease of growing and habit. Still, they should overwinter in Michigan if they are planted in the ground when they are not in full flower so they have time to get established and they are mulched prior to the snow cover. We have a more complete information sheet available in the store for anyone who would like more detail care instructions.
New for us this fall is a series called Igloo. This variety of mum is truly a perennial type that we guarantee to come back next summer/fall. It is available in 5 different colors. If you want a hardy mum, look for the display inside the store.
