Outdoor Urns Provide Festive Holiday Decorating

We have a large variety of greenery, twigs, bows and more to make your urn/planter unique.

As gardening ends, don't despair. The secret to a beautiful winter is outdoor urns.

Have you ever looked out your window in the winter and thought, "I wish there was something to make the winter months look more cheery?" Well, I recently discovered an idea that has a lot of potential, outdoor urns.

Outdoor urns are one of the fastest growing gardening trends and one of the easiest to assemble and maintain. They provide seasonal interest and can be simple or elaborate, monochromatic in theme or contain a range of colors and textures.

This idea has really caught on in Chicago. Take a trip to Chicago's Miracle Mile this winter and experience the allure of the decorated urns and planters, window boxes and flower beds filled with winter greens.

Some of my favorite evergreens are Boxwood, Nobel Fir, Blue Spruce and Cedar. Mix the greenery with Reg Dogwood or Curly Willow twigs and add pinecones, berries, ribbons and ornaments to make your planter a unique and festive display of holiday cheer.

To create your own urn or outdoor planter, fill a plastic pot with top soil that fits inside the urn. It is easier to plant and decorate the liner pot in the warmth of our store or your home than filling the urn with soil and decorating the urn outdoors. Also by keeping the freezing and expanding soil in a liner pot, your urn or planter is less likely to crack and be damaged with our every changing winter weather.

Add your favorite mix of greenery and pinecones at the base of the planter. For height include twigs, branches or holiday stakes such as candy canes. Fill in spots with berries, bows or outdoor lights.

If one urn is good, two or more are better. Grouping planters and urns of different sizes makes a big impression. Adding white lights to the planters gives some sparkle to your front door and yard.

Planted pots and urns also make stylish gifts that are appreciated all season.
