Kalamazoo In Bloom
An Organization Worth Knowing and Supporting
Did you know that the lovely gardens at Bronson Park, the Celery Flats, Arcadia Commons, the downtown Kalamazoo Mall, the Portage Library, the Airport and numerous other high profile locations around Kalamazoo and Portage are planted with donated flowers every year by an organization called Kalamazoo In Bloom (KIB)? These gardens that we all enjoy are not done by our respective cities but by a group of dedicated and fun volunteers.
This non-profit, all volunteer organization's mission is to enhance the beauty of our community and promote the bedding plant industry, history and traditions. Every year KIB volunteer's plant gardens in 13 areas across the Kalamazoo-Portage area to beautify public areas, create learning opportunities and educate consumers on the bedding planting industry. Wenke Greenhouses supports KIB by donating flowers to help beautify our cities and welcome residents and tourists to our public parks, malls and offices.
KIB needs volunteers to help plant flowers in both Kalamazoo and Portage. May 29 and May 30 are the planting dates for Kalamazoo and May 16 for Portage. To join them to help plant for a few hours or for an entire day sign up on their Web site at www.kalamazooinbloom.org.
