Official Spring Opening Today!

Now that taxes are all done, it's time to roll up our sleeves and dig into the garden. The forecast looks amazing for the weekend. We couldn't ask for better early spring weather in Michigan!  My neighbor's magnolia has just started to bloom and I have even a hint of yellow on my forsythia. It won't be long for the azaleas, rhododendrons, dogwoods and redbuds to follow. I can't wait!

If you are in the market for any of these amazing spring blooms it is best to shop while they are in full bloom. This will enable selection of just the right color. We have a few forsythia in full bloom right now and our rhododendrons are full of buds.

Now is the time to put out your hummingbird feeders. When feeding in spring only fill your feeder about 1/3 full or maybe even a little less. This way you won't be wasting too much nectar while you are waiting for the first hummingbird to arrive. Read more about the best place to hang your feeder, how to make your own nectar and what to plant to attract these amazing little creatures.

Today, Wenke's officially opens for Spring! Our store hours are now Mon thru Sat 8am-8pm and Sundays 10am-4pm.  We have a wonderful selection of hanging baskets and stylish containers of mixed annuals all ready to to instantly brighten your porch or entryway as well as our individual pots of annuals that you can mix and match to make your own container garden. This is the perfect time to get inspired and refreshed for the spring season. If you haven't already, we invite you to stop in and enjoy!

Consider joining us on Thursday, April 23rd at 6pm for our quick class Spring is for Vegetables. You don't need to wait for summer to start harvesting your own healthy and organic produce? This class will teach you what's possible to grow and pick in early spring. Come join us and learn about the types of vegetables that love the cool weather of spring in Michigan.

One of my favorite events of the year is the New Variety & Wine Tasting, next Friday, April 24th between 6 and 8 pm.  We share information about new plant varieties, while you leisurely stroll through the greenhouse sipping wine from Contessa Winery.  Whether you come for the plant information or just for the wine, it's an enjoyable evening and we hope you can join us. Please register on our website. Please note that you must be a 21 yrs and a Garden Rewards Member to sample the wine.

The sunshine and blossoms are beckoning and it is finally time to start digging in the garden. We look forward to helping you make it your best gardening year ever!
