After what seems like months of endless rain and cooler temps, the clouds have parted and temperatures have risen. It finally feels like summer! During this kind of weather, I try to do only the absolute necessities above and beyond watering and deadheading. It’s the time to sit in the shade, sip some lemonade and enjoy the all the amazing beauty of my garden. I hope you can find time to sit and enjoy the fruits of your labor as well!
When the weather gets this warm, you want to be sure that you have mulched all the plants in your flower bed. And be sure to mulch heavily. Maintain a heavy (two to four inches) mulch throughout your landscape and gardens to reduce water needs and eliminate weeding. Be sure to water plants when needed and not according to the calendar or day of the week and be sure to water (soak) thoroughly rather than applying frequent light sprinklings. Also be sure to fertilize hanging baskets and other container plants regularly with a water-soluble fertilizer. Remember, you can bring in your empty containers to Wenke Greenhouses and fill up on free fertilizer. Every day!
We're open all summer and look forward to having you stop by the store. Open Monday - Saturday 9 - 6.
