The month of October is flying by! It is hard to believe we only have 2 weeks left before we close the doors this year. Our last day for the 2015 season will be October 30th. Unfortunately, it has been decided that Wenke Greenhouses will not be open to sell poinsettias during the Christmas season this year. We tried to make a go of it these past couple of years but just couldn’t get the momentum that we need to keep going. We would like to extend a big “thank you” to everyone who purchased poinsettias from us in the past and let you know we will be back ready and raring to go in April!
Be sure to stop in during these next 2 weeks and check out our amazing prices on all remaining plant material. Basically, if it GROWS, it GOES! All plants are now 50% off regular price. Yes, this includes mums, pansies, annuals, tropical, perennials, shrubs, roses and trees. We still have a great selection and there is still time to plant!
Don’t forget…Fall is the time to set the stage for a beautiful spring too. This is the best and only time to plant your spring flowering bulbs so you'll no longer have to be envious of those beautiful, colorful gardens you see everywhere next spring. You’ll have one of your very own…and all remaining bulbs are also 50% off! And now planting bulbs is made even easier with the Easy Bloom Pads: dig, drop, done! These are also 50% off right now! While supplies last.
Don’t forget to plant some pansies this month. Depending on the weather, these little beauties could continue to bloom in your garden into early December. When temperatures go below freezing, pansies will stop growing and blooming but will come back in full force in early spring and bloom their hearts out until hot weather stifles them in the summer. And if you plant now, you won't have to freeze your fingers planting in the early spring.
You can still get wonderful fall decorations from us including corn stalks, ornamental colored corn, gourds and pumpkins, both for baking and jack-o-lantern carving.
Got roses? Then we encourage you to join us for our quick class, Winter's Coming: Getting your Roses Ready, this Saturday, October 17th at 1pm to learn all about getting your roses ready for winter. Our own rose expert, Larry Hill, will be here to speak to our customers, along with members of the Southwest MI Celebration of Roses. This would be a great time to learn more about membership in the group as well. No need to register. Just stop on by!

Weather Alert! Chance of Frost, Freeze and possibly even the "S" Word this weekend!
Old man winter is coming to town and this weekend the forecast calls for night time temperatures in the mid to low 30's with a chance of frost in low lying regions. And Keith said, "Possibly even the "S" word."
If you have not brought your house plants inside, now is the time to do so. Once inside house plants may lose some leaves due to shock. This is normal. If you are wishing to save any annuals or vegetables you will need to bring them into the garage or cover them with a light sheet, such as a bed sheet, to protect them from being frosted. Do not use plastic.
Bring hanging baskets into a garage or house for night. If unsure what to cover, err on the side of caution and cover.
